Andy is a TFA Coach in the Gold Coast / Brisbane region

& Coaching Experience 

Andy studied a BA (Hons) Sports Science degree at Northumbria University, which included Sport Psychology, profiling and preparation, Nutrition and Sports Coaching to name a few.

Andy completed his Level two Coaching Badge through the Professional Football Association, under the guidance of Joe Joyce (Current Newcastle United Academy Manager).

Andy compleated his UEFA B licence in September 2012 at Durham University. Andy was taught by Barney Jones through the Northumberland Football Association (F.A.). Barney has a wealth of practical coaching experience at all levels of the game, including working for the F.A. as the Director of Football at their regional Centre of Excellence in Durham. Barney was also the former F.A. Lead Tutor at the Northumberland F.A.

Andy has been a key member of our coaching team and is currently the technical director of Magic United TFA who works closely with Dean Gregory (Junior Director, U5 to U11), Robbie Smith (Senior Director U12 to u18) and Adem Poric (First Team Coach).

Andy was Head Coach at Bond University in 2012. Andy has also attended the last 2 FIFA world cups in South Africa and Brazil to further his professional development.

Playing background

Andy came through the School boy ranks at Carlisle United Football Club, gaining a Youth Training Contract. After two Years with the Club he signed for a year with Scottish 3rd Division Club Gretna Football Club which recently folded after reaching the Scottish Premier League.

The following year Andy signed for Gateshead Football Club who currently play in the Blue Square Premier League (North). Andy had spells in lower leagues with Wark and Bellingham Football Clubs’ and also played under Barney Jones at Northumbria University.

Andy arrived in Australia in 2009 

Andy has played under Josh McCloughlan (Current Brisbane Roar Youth Team Coach) playing at Southern Cross United who played in the Hyundai Queensland State League 2010 (QSL).

Andy has won the Gold Coast Premier League three times and has played in 6 Gold Coast Premier League Grand Finals, winning the final on 5 occasions.
